Local Supplier Development project in partnership with BCBC and Arena Network have organised two Environmental Seminars called “Greening your Business – Reap the Rewards” to help change Companies attitudes to this issue and inspire SME’s to consider their own changes in policy and procedure.
The first of our environmental seminars, organised in partnership with BCBC, took place at the Waterton Technology Centre Bridgend on 3rd October 2007 and was very well received with over 50 companies in attendance.
The second event is being organised with Arena Network & Sustainable Swansea and sponsored by Envirowise and is taking place at the Dylan Thomas Centre Swansea on Thursday 29th November 2007. The latest event also gives added value to all attendees by offering them a choice of two FREE workshops to attend, one on Energy Efficiencies and one on Waste Minimisation.
These events are being organised following the success of our first Greening Your Business Event last September at the Liberty Stadium. At that event one of the case studies was Lewis Pies. Wilf Lewis, Director says:- “Your business does not have to be compromised by making the choice to be more sustainable. There are some relatively simple actions you can take to reduce the impact you have on the environment. These measures have slashed some of our running costs. I only wish I had acted sooner.”
Both events will provide companies with an opportunity to find out about how Local businesses have reaped the benefits of making their business more environmentally friendly. From waste reduction, energy efficiency and recycling, these companies have worked closely with the Green Dragon environmental management scheme to implement a number of measures, which not only make good environment sense, but have also helped reduce the running costs of the business.
Business and the Environment are not mutually exclusive. Climate change is almost never out of the headlines these days, we all have a responsibility to do something to reduce it, further it will become a more common factor when companies are competing for work as an important element of any tender submission. It is certain that in the future it will be sustainable businesses that will have the competitive edge. The Greening Your Business seminar has been coordinated by Local Supplier Development & Contract Shop, an initiative which aims to encourage intertrading amongst local businesses and provides the bridge between new opportunities and local companies, in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and Arena Network.
