There is still time to get in a nomination for this year's Swansea Bay Young Achiever Awards.

The awards, set up in 2007 by Swansea Bay Partnership and sponsored by Wales & West Utilities, pay tribute to the hard work, determination and dedication shown by youngsters in the region.

Anyone aged between 14 and 30 is eligible for the awards as long as they either live or work or study in Neath Port Talbot, Swansea or Carmarthenshire areas.

Nominations, which close on Friday 27th March, are invited in the following categories: Business; Creative Achievement; Community Volunteering and World of Work.
Jackie Roe, WWU’s Corporate Affairs Manager, said: “Wales & West Utilities is delighted to be supporting the awards for the well deserved recognition they provide to local youngsters from all walks of life across the Swansea Bay area. The Awards play a vital role in raising awareness of the tremendous potential that exists out there.”

Last year, Mathew Richards won the Community Volunteer Award before going on to scoop the overall title of Swansea Bay Young Achiever 2008.   Mathew was an assistant leader for ‘Back of the Net’ after school club in Penlan, which provides football opportunities to disadvantaged youngsters.  Since last year’s awards Mathew has travelled to Uganda to teach football to orphans and young people in the slums of Kampala.
